At Great Day Labradoodles, nutrition is one of the foundations of long-term health. We recommend incorporating fresh, species-appropriate foods whenever practical, and many of our families choose to include raw food as part of their dog’s daily diet.
This guide explains how much to feed, how to transition safely, and how to order through Inter Mountain Raw.
Choose the Approach That Fits Your Family
Raw as the Complete Diet
For families who want to feed a properly balanced raw diet for every meal.
Raw + Kibble
A practical option for many Great Day families. Feed raw for one meal and kibble for the other, or use raw as part of each meal.
Raw as a Topper
Add a smaller amount of raw food to your dog’s regular diet for variety and fresh-food nutrition.
When raw food replaces only part of a complete kibble diet, reduce the kibble accordingly to avoid overfeeding.
How Much Raw Food Should I Feed?
Adult Dogs
A common starting point is approximately 2–3% of ideal adult body weight per day.
Start closer to 2% for less-active dogs or dogs that gain weight easily.
Start closer to 3% for very active or naturally lean dogs.
Adjust based on body condition—not appetite alone.
Divide the daily amount between two meals.
Example
A healthy, active 30-pound adult dog may begin with approximately:
12 ounces of raw food per day
That could be divided into:
6 ounces in the morning + 6 ounces in the evening
Puppies, Pregnant Dogs and Nursing Mothers
Puppies and breeding females have different nutritional requirements from typical adult dogs. Their diets must provide the correct balance of calories, protein, calcium, phosphorus and other nutrients.
Your puppy has been raised on a mix of Raw and kibble. Your puppy will come home with detailed feeding instructions.
Complete Diet vs. Individual Ingredients
This is important because Inter Mountain Raw offers both ground blends and single ingredients.
Not every package of meat, organs, bone or fish is a complete diet by itself.
Before feeding raw as your dog’s entire diet, confirm that the combination is nutritionally balanced for your dog’s life stage. Individual ingredients are useful for variety, but they should be used as part of a thoughtfully balanced feeding plan.

How to Transition
A Gentle Transition
For dogs currently eating kibble:
Days 1–3: 25% raw / 75% current food
Days 4–6: 50% raw / 50% current food
Days 7–9: 75% raw / 25% current food
Day 10 onward: Intended feeding plan
Some dogs transition more quickly, while sensitive dogs may need additional time. Watch stool quality, appetite and overall comfort.
Storage and Safe Handling
Keep raw food frozen until needed.
Thaw in the refrigerator—not on the counter.
Wash hands, bowls, utensils and preparation surfaces thoroughly.
Keep raw food separate from human food.
Refrigerate thawed food promptly.
Discard food left unrefrigerated too long.
Use particular care in homes with very young children, older adults, pregnant people or anyone with a weakened immune system.
How to Know the Amount Is Right
Use a short checklist:
Your dog should have:
A visible waist when viewed from above
Ribs that are easy to feel but not prominently visible
Steady energy
Consistent stools
Stable, healthy weight
Recheck weight and body condition every two to four weeks when beginning a new diet.

Not Sure What to Buy First?
My suggestion for a 30 lb dog:
Salmon/Beef Organ/Beef Tripe Blend 2lb Chub $4.75lb
I would order 12 chubs (24 lbs.) and use about 12oz per day. This would come out to $120 per month for one 30 lbs. dog.
A simple starter order might include:
A balanced ground blend like
One additional protein for variety
Raw meaty bones or approved chews
Fish or another omega-rich option
Enough food for approximately two to four weeks

Can I mix raw food and kibble?
Yes. Many Great Day families use a combination approach. Adjust the total calories so the dog is not receiving a full serving of both.
Do I have to feed raw for every meal?
No. Raw can be the entire diet, one meal per day or a topper.
How much freezer space will I need?
That depends on your dog’s weight and pickup frequency. A 30-pound dog eating 12 ounces daily uses roughly 23 pounds per month.
Can I feed the same amount to every dog?
No. Activity, metabolism, age, reproductive status and ideal body weight all affect feeding needs.
Is raw appropriate for every household?
Not necessarily. Families should consider food-safety risks, storage, budget and whether the chosen diet is nutritionally complete.
