What is an Australian Bernedoodle?

An Australian Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernedoodle and a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle. Great Days’ Australian Bernedoodles are a cross between a Bernedoodle and a Multi-generational Australian Labradoodle. A Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, making 50% of each breed the first generation.

Australian Bernedoodle

The Australian Labradoodle was originally a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle, infused with Irish Water Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel, and English Cocker Spaniel in early generations of breeding. A puppy considered “multigenerational” has two parents from multiple generations of Australian Labradoodles being bred to other Australian Labradoodles.

Our plan in 2023 is to produce a few litters by mating our multi-gen Australian Labradoodle moms to some beautiful Bernedoodle dads.

Why add the Bernedoodle to the program?

I always keep health and temperament in mind. The cross between an F1 Bernedoodle and a Multi-generational Australian Labradoodle increases “hybrid vigor” and gives us more happy years with our pets. Genetic diversity reduces the chances of inherited diseases, and I like the solid build I see in the Bernedoodle. Using the F1 dogs, we can effectively keep the non-shedding benefits and a moderate size range.

Temperament: The Bernese brings an added level of gentleness and loyalty. They are, like the Labradoodle, playful, loving, and highly intelligent. I expect to see the best of both worlds by crossing these two demeanors. I want to see calm, quiet, friendly pups ready for the next adventure with their people. I think they will be very kid friendly.

What will they look like?

They will not look a lot different than many of my current dogs. The coat will have some splashy color and a bit of wispiness. I am a fan of the big white tuxedo markings for sure! But physically, they will be similar to what we have now and will likely add some ‘chunk.’

When can I get an Australian Bernedoodle?

The Summer of 2023 will likely bring us the first litter.  Fingers crossed, watch for the announcement; as soon as an ultrasound confirms a litter, I will post it. The first litter is with Gypsy and Sarge; Sarge is from LK Bernedoodles.
